We Love The Arts in Colonial Beach

Art is a Big Part of Colonial Beach Life

A beautiful place tends to incite a desire to create beautiful art.  That has been the case in Colonial Beach where artists range from those with national and even international reputations, to highly regarded regional and local artists, and those newly infected with the creativity bug.   A monthly Art Walk sponsored by the Colonial Beach Artists’ Guild on 2nd Fridays motivates artists to continually create new works.  Their efforts are showcased in five or more different venues every Art Walk and the works stay up all month.

The 2019 Osprey Festival inspired many local artists to focus their talents on birdlife for the 2nd Friday Art Walk last April that ushered in last year's Osprey Festival weekend.  The same was happening this year before the 2020 Festival had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.  So we wanted to share some of these works with you and some earlier pieces as well.  Many can be purchased by contacting the artist.

Works from Major Arts Organizations in Colonial Beach

The Artists’ Alliance, 100 Taylor St., Colonial Beach

The Artists' Alliance is made up of a group of artists from around the area who are working to expand the legacy of Jarrett Thor Fine Arts by providing a diverse array of art to the community of Colonial Beach and its visitors.  Jarrett Thor Fine Arts was the premiere gallery in Colonial Beach for more than a decade until its owners Joyce Jarrett and Carl Thor, both artists themselves, semi-retired from their second retirement.  The Thors still display their work in the adjoining gallery.

Colonial Beach Artists’ Guild

The Colonial Beach Artists’ Guild is a nonprofit organization that works “to bring varied visual art experiences and educational opportunities to the greater Colonial Beach and Westmoreland County community.”   They sponsor the 2nd Friday Art Walks in which Guild artists exhibit at Coldwell Banker Real Estate.  Individual artists often have solo shows at other Art Walk venues and also exhibit at an annual members’ show with prizes for award-winning works.

Music Fills the Air on Weekend Evenings

Live music can be heard all over Colonial Beach on weekends and much of the year in many venues.  The Tides Inn and Market features music Friday or Saturday nights along with quality wines, beer, snacks, dinners and luscious desserts.  The Colonial Beach Brewery has music that runs well into the evening.  Other venues like High Tides and Dockside feature major regional bands making it possible to dance off some of the town’s delectable cuisine.

Steve Griffin and his band play under the pergola at The Tides Inn and Market.

Great dance band and local favorite, The Hard to Tell Band was scheduled to play at this year’s Osprey Festival.

Fun for the whole family when bands play at the Dockside Tiki Bar

Colonial Beach is filled with Songbirds like Sally Adams and Brian Jarboe who continue to live stream performances during the pandemic. View All their Videos on YouTube Here
